8th Annual Unity Walk

12:30 pm       Registration Opens- Washington Hebrew Congregation, 3935 Macomb Street, NW

                               Service Project from 12:30 – 2:15 pm:

  • Volunteers make bags of trail mix for the homeless of Friendship Place.
  • Shoes are collected to be donated to those without in the Metro DC area.

 1:35-2:00      Program Begins – Welcome and Opening Remarks

  • Moment of silence for victims of the Oak Creek, WI shootings and all victims of religious bigotry and hatred.
  • Letter written by Tarini, a 10 year old Sikh girl, following the Oak Creek Shootings.

2:15-4:15 pm Open Houses – Participants may choose between 3 blocks of activities at Open Houses. Volunteer ushers will guide foot traffic between stops and at major road intersections.

Block 1: 2:15-2:45

o      Fountain at Washington Hebrew Congregation – Water Ceremony  presented by Rev. Maynard Moore,   3935 Macomb Street, NW

o      Embassy ChurchBlessings, Speaking in Tongues and Miracles,” 3855 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

o      Annunciation Catholic Church - Guided tours of the church, 3810 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

o      Washington National Cathedral – Tours of the Cathedral, 3101 Wisconsin Avenue, NW

o      St. Alban’s Episcopal Church- Tours of the Church, information on Youth Programs offered at St. Alban’s, and the opportunity to speak with St. Alban’s youth members. 3001 Wisconsin Avenue, NW

o      St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church- Incense, Greek spiritual music tours, and opportunities to learn about their youth programs. 2815 36th Street, NW

Block 2: 3:00-3:30

o      Shared Meal – Prepared and presented by the by Sikh Community and Turban-tying demonstration. Hosted at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 3001 Wisconsin Avenue, NW

o      Community of Christ – Guided Tour, 3526 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

o      St. Nicholas Cathedral- Guided Tour, 3500 Massachusetts Avenue,, NW

o      Soka Gakkai International- “A Chance to Chant,” 3417 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

 Block 3: 3:45-4:15

o      Shared Meal – Prepared and presented by the by Sikh Community and Turban-tying demonstration. Hosted at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 3001 Wisconsin Avenue, NW

o      Embassy of the Vatican- Greeting from Monsignor Angelo Accattino, Charge d’Affaires, 3339 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

o      Khalil Gibran Memorial Park –“The Experience of Mantra Meditation” led by Bali Adawal, 3100 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

o      Islamic Center of Washington- Guided tours of the Mosque, 2551 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

o       Soka Gakkai International—Interfaith Youth Workshop by Capital Area Interfaith Friends, an IYAG partner, 3417 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

4:30-5              Unity Walk Program Resumes at Islamic Center of Washington, 2551 Massachusetts Avenue
