Shereen Zaid, Event Manager
Shereen Zaid was raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors degree in Religious Studies. During the summers, she pursued many internships in the Interfaith Movement in Chicago and Washington, DC. After graduating in 2007, she went to India to join a conflict resolution non-profit, where she gained the skills necessary to eliminate religious conflict in an effective way. After living abroad, she joined a US Senatorial Campaign in Oklahoma during the 2008 election cycle. When the campaign was over, she decided to move to Washington, DC to hone her community organizing skills. She will be joining the 9/11 Unity Walk as an Event Planner. She is happy to be creating the space for people to connect.
Sana Saeed, Program Manager, IYAG
Sana is the Program Manager for Unity Walk’s Interfaith Youth Action Group (IYAG) and works as the Director of Youth Programs at Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, Va., managing social justice, spiritual and service programs for 200 high-school and middle-school youth. She is also a consultant on youth organizing, activism, and online social networking in Washington D.C. Sana previously worked as the Campus Program Coordinator for the American Islamic Congress with a focus on creating a multi-cultural and interfaith student groups on college campuses called, Project Nur, in Washington D.C. and Boston. Her work was highlighted in the Wall Street Journal in an article she co-authored on the impact of Project Nur on Muslim students on college campuses across the East Coast. She has previously worked for Clergy Beyond Borders and the Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution. She holds an M.S. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University in Virginia. Sana has also presented her college research on Muslim women as peacemakers at the Salaam Institute for Peace and Justice, Green Festival, and the University of Massachusetts. In her spare time she travels and blogs about her adventures, which have recently been commented on by the Travel Channel and published in Go Galavanting, an online travel magazine for women. She also volunteers with a group of friends to host a monthly fundraising event at the Hillyer Art Space with Voices Organizing for International Change, Empowerment and Support (V.O.I.C.E.S) to raise funds for organizations supporting youth activism globally that use hip-hop and the arts as tools for empowering youth.
